Meet Pina!

For the second year, YNCU is proud to have adopted a Future Dog Guide! In 2006, we (formerly Grand River Credit Union) adopted Dreyfus who went on to become a Special Skills Dog and was partnered with Thea. (Read more about Dreyfus.)

It can take up to $20,000 to raise and train a puppy to be a Canine Vision, Hearing Ear or Special Skills Dog Guide.

Dog Guides Canada is a charitable foundation that receives no government funding. You can help provide mobility, safety and independence to Canadians with your donation. Tax receipts for donations of $15 or more are available. For information about Dog Guides Canada, visit their website at dogguides.com.

Pina has been placed in foster care with Helen and David for her first year, where she'll be socialized and taught proper house manners and basic obedience while being exposed to as many different situations, experiences and people as possible.

She will be assessed every 4 - 6 weeks to evaluate her progress. At approximately one year of age, she will be recalled, assessed and assigned to one of three programs for 6 - 8 months of training. Upon successful completion of the training program she will go home with a new partner.

 

Pina has already attended our Fischer-Hallman branch bar-b-que where we raised over $400 through the generous support of our members and staff. Pina was a big hit with staff and visitors alike! She's all over her new job!!
