Reducing the barriers between you and money
YNCU was created on the belief that all people deserve the same access to money—to buy a home or to live their dreams. Its an idea that is still relevant today. At YNCU, we're combining new levels of technological intelligence, simplicity, and speed that you'd expect from modern financial services with something technology can’t replace, genuine human care—as your financial future shouldn't be decided by an algorithm.
The YNCU story: Community made
YNCU began in the 1940s, when people came together in church halls, factories and workplaces to create a better way to save, borrow and build their futures. In Waterloo Region, St. Louis Parish Credit Union started in a church hall in 1947. In Brantford and Paris, YNCU grew from factory floors. Across Ontario, teachers, Bell Canada employees, firefighters, public sector workers and countless others added to our story and shaped our values.

We're built differently to open doors
Our story is similar to those of other credit unions, who were founded by working-class people and small business owners who came together to pool their money and provide one another with affordable loans and financial services. At a time when traditional banks often excluded people because of their income or social standing, credit unions offered a cooperative, community-focused alternative to high-interest lenders. Our members were our creators and founders. From the beginning, credit unions have been driven by necessity, unmet needs, and innovation. We were among the first to lend to women, installed Canada’s first ATM, and even launched digital banking on a gaming console—well before digital banking became the norm.

Making a difference
YNCU invests in the communities we all call home. From supporting local charities, food security, youth programs and financial education to giving our people time to volunteer and taking action on environmental sustainability, we put our values to work. As a Certified B Corporation, we hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and responsible business. Because doing well should mean doing good, too.
